How the bar bending schedule is built

A bar bending schedule is more than a weight list. It is a fabrication and purchasing document. We build it from the reinforcement sheets themselves, so every line points to a specific section and sheet and the site engineer can trace any bar back to its place.

Each line of the schedule carries:

  • Bar mark, element and sheet reference.
  • Bending shape code and the dimension of each leg.
  • Diameter and the cut length after bend deductions.
  • Quantity per element and total quantity.
  • Weight from the theoretical unit weight of the diameter.

The reinforcement sheets include cross sections and long sections of every element, with bars drawn in their real shapes and a mark for each type. On the section we write stirrup spacing, concrete cover and lap positions, so the rebar fixer finds everything in one place and does not need to collect it from several sheets.

From the sheet to the mill order

Once the schedule is complete we total the weights per diameter and compare them with the estimated quantities in the BOQ. If the gap is large we tell you and give the reason, for example a different lap length or extra bars around openings.

Cut pieces can be arranged to come out of 12 m bars with the least offcut, which lowers cost on repeated buildings such as villa compounds. We also separate main reinforcement from spacers, chairs and tie wire so that nothing is counted twice.

Bars are divided into logical groups, such as bottom bars, top bars, stirrups, spacer bars and additional bars, each numbered in sequence. This lets the site engineer inspect reinforcement before the pour element by element against the schedule and reduces the chance of a bar being missed or repeated.

Typical scheduling errors

  • Forgetting bend deductions when computing the length of a bent bar.
  • Counting lap bars twice where two sheets meet.
  • Mixing bar marks between two revisions of the drawing.
  • Using an approximate weight instead of the theoretical weight per diameter.

A second engineer reads the schedule independently, and weights are matched against the sheets again. A fuller explanation is in our article on the bar bending schedule, and reinforcement sheets are part of our structural shop drawings.

Weights appear in kilograms per element and in tons per diameter, with a project total. That helps cost estimation and delivery tracking, because what arrives on site for each diameter can be compared with what the schedule requires, and the balance still to be ordered is clear.

Price and limits of use

The schedule is included in the structural shop drawing price: 195 SAR per A1 sheet including BBS tables, minimum order 1,500 SAR before VAT. Worked example only: 15 sheets x 195 = 2,925 SAR before VAT, plus 15% VAT in KSA.

Drawings and schedules are prepared for review, approval and stamping by your licensed consultant or engineer in the project country; we do not stamp drawings for authorities. The delivery date is fixed in the quote according to scope, and a villa-size set is usually delivered within 24 to 48 hours, depending on size and drawing quality.

To start, send the structural design sheets and the steel specification. We review the drawings first and tell you about any section conflict or missing detail before scheduling begins, then deliver sheets and schedule together so the steel order is not delayed. Later revisions stay on record: if a section changes, only its schedule lines and weights are updated.

Frequently asked questions

Is the schedule priced separately?

No. The BBS tables are included in the 195 SAR price per A1 structural sheet.

Can I trace each bar to its sheet?

Yes. Every bar mark has an element and a sheet reference, so it can be checked on site and against the weights.

Do you deliver the BBS in Excel?

Yes, as an Excel file with live formulas next to the DWG and PDF sheets.

How do you treat waste?

We show the offcut that results from the cutting layout on standard lengths. Any waste percentage we assume is declared as an estimate.

Can you sign an NDA?

Yes, on request, before we receive the files.
